Great scoring in the Wed Open last week with seventeen players scoring 36 pts or better. Tim O’Sullivan, from the Ballina-Killaloe area, had the best score of 43pts. He had the best back nine of four over par. Visitor Donald McLean birdied the 13th but dropped five shots over the closing holes but still good shooting and lost out on first place on the countback. Third place Robbie Foley had birdies at 2nd, 11th and 13th with a level par back nine.

Sat 22nd and Sun 23rd June: Lions Club Weekend Open Singles: 1st: Brian Fitzgibbon (8) 39 pts (back 9); 2nd Michael Manning (19) 39 pts (back 9); 3rd David Murray (15) 39 pts; gross Andrew Brennan 35 pts; seniors Liam Hogan (13) 38 pts; 4th Jim Casey (21) 38 pts (back 9); 5th Pat Callanan (13) 38 pts (back 9). The Sat players had the best of the weather in this competition at the weekend with the first three prizewinners played on that day. Brian Fitzgibbon emerged as winners with a five over round including a birdie at the 14th. Michael Manning got off to a great start with a birdie at the first. Andrew Brennan was one over par and claimed the gross prize.

Hole- in-One: Well done to John Seymour who had a hole-in-one at the 15th hole playing the Lions Club Singles on Saturday.

Crumlin Hospital Qualifier: The qualifier for the All-Ireland Crumlin Hospital competition takes place in Nenagh on Sun. The format is three person rumble. One score to count on the first six holes; two to count on holes 7 to 13 and all three to count on holes 14 to 18. One group will qualify from Nenagh to compete in the Munster final. The entry fee is €60 per team. The Munster final of this competition will be at a later date.

IHCPT Golf Classic: The 21st annual IHCPT Golf Classic (Vinny Savage’s Classic) takes place at Nenagh Golf Club on Fri 12th July. The format will be a four person scramble. Regular timesheet up until 12.15. Shotgun start at 4.45 p.m. Teams of four (any combination) £100 (1/10th handicap – no maximum). Minimum three drives per person. Timesheet in bar at clubhouse 067-31476. Help make this the biggest classic yet.

Summer Mixed Tues 25th June: 1st: Cordelia Cormack (28) and Matt Peters (16) 30 pts; 2nd Sally McGuigan (36) and Pat Collins (17) 29 pts (back 6); 3rd Mary R. Ryan (28) and Martin Shorley (19) 29 pts (last hole); gross Laura Farrell and Michael Cormack 18 pts (back 6).

J. B. Carr: The J.B. Carr squad won the home leg of their clash with Waterford 5-0 on Sat afternoon. Paddy Kennedy and Gary Howard won on the 19th; Billy Morgan and Paul Moloney won on 18th; Jim Gleeson and Toddy Hogan won on 13th; Pat McGrath and Dinny Ryan won on 14th and Paddy Peters and Matt Peters won on 15th. They are away to Waterford in the next couple of weeks and just need to win one match to progress. Well done to the squad and selectors Aussie Dennison and Stan Henry.

Diageo Mixed: The Diageo Mixed team went down 3 matches to 2 to Mountrath playing in Nenagh on Fri evening last. Paddy Kennedy and Winnie Ryan won on the 15th; Michael Cormack and Joan Garahy won on 10th while Pat Toohey and Mary Ryan lost on 18th; Jo Ahearne and Kevin Walshe lost on 17th and Patsy Farrell and Breda Fitzgibbon lost on 15th. Thanks to the team and selectors John Ryan and Margaret Walsh.

Junior Cup: The Junior Cup selection were in Rathbane in the first round of the Munster championship. They lost in their first match against Adare. The Nenagh team was Robert Ward, Tony Scroope, Michael Corrigan Jnr, Tommy Gaynor and James Toohey. The selectors were Denis Corrigan, Liam Heffernan and Michael Walsh.
