Munster Senior ‘A’ League
Bandon Grammar, Cork: 0
Ursuline Convent: 3
At the Bandon Grammar School venue, Ursulines maintained their challenge doing just enough to earn the points on offer, though it did take twenty nine minutes to pick up the winning trail when Edel Nyland set up Kate Crotty for the opening goal after a series of near misses where both girls, together with Laura Costello, Rachel Perdue, Becky Danaher and Róisín Dowling were involved. Four chances were frittered away in the opening minutes of the second period. Four short corners also went abegging before Edel and Kate provided Rachel Perdue with the opportunity to grab number two for the Thurles School. Kate on her own clinched the victory with a rasping shot, five minutes from time.

Having already dropped points to Crescent. Ursuline cannot afford anymore mistakes. Their task was made that much harder when the home side took the lead in the 8th minute, courtesy of danger girl Sandra Giles. Bróna Dowling and Ruth Herlihy picked up on the challenge and worked their way up field, aided by mids, Aoife Booth, Susie Osborne and Alison Bourke, but finding gaps in the Bandon defence weren’t easy to come by and had eventually to go in at the break, that one goal adrift. After the restart Alison fired a shot across the goal and waiting at the left post to steer it home was Rachael Quinlan for the equaliser. But Ursulines celebrations were short lived as their nemesis, Sandra Giles popped up for her second and the lead once more for the Grammar School. Two minutes after Maria Ryan broke away, inside the half way line and steamed up field for a head to head with the Cork keeper. Maria eased the ball past the helpless keeper for a 2-2 scenario once more. The winning goal came seven minutes from time, when Bróna picked up way out and outpaced the defence all the way to the circle where she linked up with Alison for a reverse stick winning goal.
