A 10k fun run/walk in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation will take place on Sunday August 26th. Anna Duggan, along with her son James and a number of locals in the Garrykennedy area have organised this event.
Anna’s husband Jimmy Duggan died of heart disease 10 years ago and the event has been organised to mark the 10th anniversary of his passing. Jimmy and Anna were originally from Templemore.
The route will be mainly back roads around the scenic village of Garrykennedy and the organisers would welcome both serious runners and people who just enjoy a good walk to come along and join them on the day. It will be a fun day for all, with face painting and games for the kids. Refreshments will be served in Ciss Ryans after the Fun Run for all participants. The race will be started by local girl, Evanna Morrissey who carried the Olympic Torch in Grays, UK on Friday 6th July, 2012. She will bring the torch along on the day, but unfortunately it cannot be lit by any flame except the Olympic Flame!
There is no entry fee for the Fun Run/Walk, but people are being asked to take a sponsorship card and collect sponsorship ahead of the event. Sponsorship cards are available from Ciss Ryans and Larkins Garrykennedy or by contacting Anna on firstname.lastname@example.org.
