Munster Masters Road Results: Declan Doherty was our first man home breaking the top ten with a fine run in 9th and was 3rd scorer on the Tipp 0/35 team that won the gold medals, Billy Phillips continued his comeback to fitness with a good run in 28th position, Pat Bracken withstood the pressure running well in 48th with his compatriot Austin Ryan having a good run in the warm weather to finish 55th, Con Corbett was full of running and finished strongly in 70th place. Well done to the lads who have ran a lot of races in the last month which included the Ballycotton 10 the County road relays and the county Novice & Novice Bs.
Mallow 10 Mile Roundup: Keith Ryan’s debut over the 10 mile distance was a great run as he was first home for the club in a fine time of 1hr 2mins &37 secs, Don Bergin has been running well of late over the 10 mile distance and he continued that good form in running 1hr 6mins &50 secs. Next home was Dave McKevitt also running well in 1hr 19mins & 9 secs. There was a good battle between the next four men home with Tony O’Mara winning the bragging rights in 1hr 24mins & 38secs, John Kennedy was close by in 1hr 25 & 45 secs with Seamie Hanafin just 3 seconds behind John. Gary Loughnane ran in 1hr:28mins &35 seconds to finish off a good days running for the club down in Cork.
The ladies triathlon group of Margaret Looby, Liz McGrath, Rebecca Power & Jenny Hanafin have been training hard in the field in Crokes, in the swimming pool and on the bike in preparation for a forthcoming event. John McGrath was spotted Marathon training on the roads last Sunday keep up the good work, The Pony club have being training hard every Monday night for the last few weeks in preparation for a Tetrathlon which is an event that includes shooting, swimming, riding and running. We also had a defibrillator refresher course held recently under the instruction of Anthony Fogarty. Upcoming Fixtures: This Sunday is the County Intermediate Road championships in Dundrum over a distance of 8k for the men and 3k for the ladies, There’s a 4 mile road run in Quilty, Co. Clare hosted by Kilmurry Ibrickane A.C. which starts at 1:30pm. Clonmel have their annual 6k Inter-Firms series which always draws large numbers of over 150 runners each night contact see clonmelac.com for more info Nenagh have a 5k series beginning Weds March 30th and continuing each Weds at 7pm for 5 weeks entry is 2 euro. Thurles Crokes is open Mon-Fri from 6:30-8pm.
