Katie Morrissey, youngest daughter of John Joe and Susan Morrissey, Old Road Cashel is the 2015 Irish U/14 Junior Tennis Champion following her great win in Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club, Dublin on August 22nd last.

In its 101st year the Junior Irish Open Competition is one of the oldest amateur sporting events in the world and the most prestigious tournament in junior tennis in the country.

The win carries historical significance within the Morrissey family as Katie has now emulated her older sister Hannahmay who won it back in 2006. They are the only two sisters to win this prestigious event since its inception over 100 years ago. Katie emerged victorious in an epic two set final following an exacting, highly competitive week of tennis in which she conceded only one set in her five matches en route to the final. Seeded four in the competition Katie showed sparkling form and determination to overcome the two top seeds in both the semi-final and final to claim the title. In the final she played the National Academy player and number one seed Zara Ryan and despite never having beaten her opponent in any tournament previously Katie remained composed and determined and won the first set in style demonstrating clean ground strokes and precision line placements by six games to two.
