Roscrea Community Games held its local athletics competition in the CBS field last Sunday, with huge support from parents.
Over 70 athletes competed in both track and field events as well as fun races for the under 4’s and under 6’s. First on track were the girls U/10 for their 60 metre hurdles. This was a hotly contested event with Khya Lynch ran a terrific heat and final taking the gold medal, Jessica Kelly silver and Ella Brussels taking the bronze medal. In the boys under U/10 60 metre hurdles Brian O’Rourke ran a great race winning the gold medal, Kyle Bergin silver medal and Kian Tynan the bronze medal. The hurdles continued for the boys U/14 1stplace- Adib Hossain, 2nd-Vlad Bodrov.
In the girls U/8 60 and 80 metres finals Ceola Bergin won 1st place in both races, Niamh O’Brien 2nd place in both and and Ava Kelly 3rd in both races. This is a great result for these three young sprinters as they will all represent Roscrea at county level in Templemore in June.
In the boys U/8 60 and 80 metre races 1st place in both races went to Billy Hayes and 2nd both races went to Paul Dooley. Billy and Paul are wished the best of luck at the county finals. The sprints continued as athletes lined up for the U/10 100 metres, again a highly contested race with heats and finals. Girls U/10 100 metre final: 1st place- Mollie Dooley, 2nd place Khya Lynch, 3rd place Ella Brussels. Boys U/10 100 metre final: 1st place-Killian Bergin, 2nd place Michael Fitzgerald, 3rd place Brian O’Rourke. Girls U/10 200 metre final: 1st place place -Mollie Dooley, 2nd place- Leah Ryan.
