A BOXING team from Munster recently entered the Box Cup Haringey in London. This tournament was run by the Metropolitan Police and held at the Alexandra Palace Wood Green North London.

Eighteen countrys from Europe and thirty two clubs from Great Britain entered this competition. Over four days, 350 bouts were foughtto get into the finals.

Mark Beresford of Thurles Boxing Club and a pupil of Clos De Muire, started well, his opponent being Felix Vann of Haslev A.B.C Denmark. Beresford was on a mission and did not hang around. Straight jabs and solid right hands took all three Rounds. Day two saw Beresford into the Semi Finals against highly favoured lee Orginsty of the Solly Boxing Club Liverpool.

The Liverpool man took the first round with some slick moves. But Beresford then stepped up the gears and took the next two rounds with an outstanding display of Boxing that took him into the finals. His apponent was Adam Colter of Cleary’s Boxing Club Manchester.

The two 63kg boxers went flat out. Not holding back, Beresford took the first round. Colter came back strong and took the second round. All down to the last round, the two boxers left nothing in the tank. The judges gave victory to Colter by one point with Beresford settling for Silver. Coach Danny Coppinger said this is a super fit young man with a promising boxing career ahead of him - unbelievable to think he is only Boxing a year and a half.
