Tipperary County Athletics

The second weekend of the Woodies DIY AAI Juvenile Indoor Championships took place in Nenagh Indoor Stadium on Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd April. On Saturday, Tipperary athletes were in great form winning 8 individual medals in total (2 gold, 3 silver & 3 bronze). In the Boys U/18 800m, golden boy, Seamus Hogan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. was again in superb form when he won the Boys U/18 800m in a time of 2.01.32.

On Saturday, Tipperary athletes were in great form winning 8 individual medals in total (2 gold, 3 silver & 3 bronze). In the Boys U/18 800m, golden boy, Seamus Hogan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. was again in superb form when he won the Boys U/18 800m in a time of 2.01.32.

He has now achieved National double gold in the Boys U/18 1500m & 800m which is a truly great achievement. Evan Lynch, Clonmel A.C. was also in flying form when he claimed the National title in the Boys U/17 1500m Walk in a time of 6.17.19, over 1 minute & 21 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

In the Boys U/19 High Jump, Shane O’Dwyer, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. won silver with a jump of 1.90m, just 5cm short of his personal best. Anthony Tobin, Clonmel A.C. also won silver in the Boys U/15 1000m Walk in a time of 4.44.62 while Patrick Lynch, Newport A.C. clinched silver in the Boys U/18 200m in a time of 23.71. Bronze medals were won by Jason Mullins, Clonmel A.C. in the Boys U/19 Shot with a throw of 11.38m, Roisin Cleary, Clonmel A.C. in the Girls U/16 800m in a time of 2.23.37 & Tom Hennessy, Nenagh Olympic A.C. in the Boys U/17 High Jump with a jump of 1.70m.

Other Tipperary athletes who competed very well but who were outside the medals were:- Chloe Lynch, Clonmel A.C. 5th in Girls U/14 1000m Walk (5.38.06); Aaron Egan, Clonmel A.C. 4th in Boys U/15 1000m Walk (4.50.25); Sarah Ryan, Templemore A.C. 4th in Girls U/16 1500m Walk (8.43.65); Alex Mahoney, Clonmel A.C. 5th in Girls U/16 1500m Walk (10.07.24); Aoife Laste, Clonmel A.C. 5th in Girls U/16 800m (2.26.37); Dan Finnerty, Nenagh Olympic A.C. 6th in Boys U/17 Shot (10.68m); Siobhan Hennessy, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. 5th in Girls U/17 1500m Walk (8.35.90); Clare Horgan, Clonmel A.C. 6th in Girls U/17 800m (2.36.35); Caroline Morgan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. 8th in Girls U/17 High Jump (1.35m) & 7th in Shot (7.85m); Marie Costello, Borrisokane A.C. 4th in Girls U/18 1500m Walk (7.54.30); Alan Ryan, Tipperary Town A.C. 6th in Boys U/19 800m (2.08.73) & Chloe Fahy, Nenagh Olympic A.C. 5th in Girls U/19 Long Jump (4.71m).
