Munster Senior B League

Ursuline Convent, Thurles: 3 Presentation Convent, Thurles: 0

The final of this competition has gone right down to the wire with three teams tied at the top of the table, Rockwell College, Villiers School and Ursulines. One round of games to play and goals will be paramount, as no doubt, goal difference will determine the outcome. Such was the story last week as Ursulines hosted near neighbours Presentation. A 3-0 win on any occasion would be great but this time round the “3” may not be enough.

From the homesters perception it could have been a lot more, were it not for the resilience of Presentation’s defence and the agility and keen eye of their keeper.

But Ursulines contributed themselves as well with some very poor finishing to many goal scoring opportunities.

Ursulines mids were excellent, Aoife McGrath, Marita Moloney and Fiona McEnery dominated proceedings with, Fiona, a very much improved player, grabbing a brace.

The first in the 15th minute of the first half and the second, some ten minutes after the restart. Eimear Norton got the third goal, seven minutes after Fiona’s first.

A great save by keeper Gwen Fitzpatrick on the approach to half time ensured Ursulines’ two goal advantage as the whistle went.

Niamh Kennedy and Edel Cummins went very near in the opening minutes of the second half before Fiona made it 3-0.

For the next fifteen minutes it was a question of left and right of the posts and the uprights themselves at times thwarted Ursulines’ best efforts, but in the end, no more goals.
