Winners in Carrick

Another East Munster final beckons after the heroics of our Mixed panel over the weekend. In Carrick on Suir on Saturday morning we had a comprehensive victory over Ballykisteen and on Sunday morning we took on our old friends and fierce rivals Thurles.Once more we came out on top to set up an afternoon match with Tipperary and as in the Bruen we again proved the victors. This was a great achievement for the club and we now look forward to the area final in 10 days time. Well done to all those involved during the weekend, players and selectors alike.

On this Thursday 23rd our Bruen team play Faithlegg in Mitchelstown in the East Munster area final at 4pm and we would encourage as many members as possible to go along and support the team. We wish them the very best of luck on the day.

The Central towns team went down to Nenagh during the last week with the last match going to the 19th. This could have gone either way and we wish Nenagh all the best for the remainder of the conpetition.

The Captains Prize draws ever closer and the sheet for it will go up in the next few days. Make sure that you have played at least 3 rounds in advance of the Captains in order to be eligible to win a prize. There will be a couple of open singles and GOY singles over the next 3 weeks so no excuses.

Juniors are reminded that the junior golf season kicks off on Monday 27th at 10 o clock with instruction and competitions being organised. Those wishing to take part and become the next Rory McIlroy need only turn up with your clubs and enjoy the sessions.

On Friday 17th we had another first time winner as Sumesh Babu won the singles with a very impressive 39pts. With only 6 points after 6 holes he did not get too downbeat and he plugged on to have 14pts to the turn. Then the fireworks began and with a fine back nine he added 25pts for his maiden victory. Sumesh hits the ball of the tee like a pro and I have no doubt that this is only the start of his winning trail.

Onto Sunday and the winner here was no first timer as Joe O Connor added to his wins with a great 42pts. He had 23pts in the bag after 9 thanks in no small way to a run of 3,3,3,3 from the 4th to 7th and he kept up the momentum with 19pts on the back. In 2nd place was Denis Ryan with 40pts. Denis had 21/19 as he played very steadily and 3rd place went to Eddie Butler with the best of those on 37pts. Eddie was only 2 over for the back nine as he recorded 16/21 with a birdie on 11 the highlight. Tim Connolly and Tom Stapleton were the other 37’s.

The Club matchplay will commence on July 4th and the sheet for entries is now on the board so get your name down asap.
