23 National Medals for Tipp Juveniles

Day 1 & 2 of the Athletics Ireland Juvenile U/12 to U/19 Track & Field Championships took place in Tullamore on Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th July. Over the 2 days Tipperary athletes won a total of 23 National medals (6 gold, 9 silver & 8 bronze). Congratulations & well done to all our athletes who performed very well & did us proud. National titles were won by Phoebe Murphy (u/14 80m), Laura Costello (U/15 250mH), Michael Quilligan (U/15 80mH), Darren Prout (U/15 TJ), Sean Tobin (U/18 3000m) & Jaco Oosthuysen (U/19 Javelin). Athletes who won more than 1 medal were Darren Prout, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. who won gold in the Boys U/15 Triple Jump & Silver in the 80mH with Michael Quilligan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. winning gold in the Boys U/15 80mH & silver in the 250mH. Jade Fahy, Nenagh Olympic A.C. also won double National bronze in the Girls U/14 Javelin & Discus. Brother & sister Darren & Leanne Prout both won medals in the U/15 80mH with Darren winning silver & Leanne bronze while brothers David & Daniel Ryan from Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. both won silver medals in the Boys U/12 & U/13 Long Jumps.

Boys U/18 - 800m – 3rd Seamus Hogan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. 2.01.14; 3000m – 1st Sean Tobin, Clonmel A.C. 8.42.52; 2000m Steeplechase – 3rd Michael Carey Clonmel A.C. 10.05.20; Shot Putt – 3rd Sean Kelly, Templemore A.C. 10.33m

Boys U/19 - Javelin – 1st Jaco Oosthuysen, Clonmel A.C. 50.63

The County Juvenile “B” Track & Field Championships took place on Sunday 3rd July in Templemore Track. Our thanks to our Juvenile Track & Field Secretary, Emby Walsh for organising the event & to all the County Officers & Clubs who provided help on the day. Full results can be found on our website at www.tipperaryathletics.com. Carrick-On-Suir A.C. emerged as the top Club in the County with Templemore A.C. in 2nd place & Clonmel A.C. in 3rd place.

Tipperary athletes won 15 individual medals at the Munster Junior, U/23 & Senior Track & Field Championships in CIT on Sunday 3rd July. The County was well represented by 6 Clubs with Borrisokane A.C. winning 2 gold & 3 silver, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. winning 3 gold & 1 silver, Clonmel A.C. with 1 gold, Templemore A.C. with 2 silver, Newport A.C. with 1 silver & 1 bronze & Thurles Crokes A.C. with 1 bronze.
