Huge Turnout For President’s Prize

Last weekend Ballykisteen celebrated our President’s Prize and our very popular President Pat Toomey had a huge turnout for his final year as President of the Club. After the torrential downpours on Friday the weather was perfect on the day (arranged by Pat’s mother) and Pat welcomed all competitors as they signed in at the Pro shop. The day went off very smoothly with a burger break on the 9th tee and the main prize being a stableford competition off the blue tees which gave all handicap divisions a decent chance to be competitive. The top 11 scores to qualify for the 9 hole playoff were Chris Ahern 42Pts, Liam Downey 40Pts, PJ Carey 40Pts, Pat Ryan 39Pts, Ciaran Keating 38Pts, Kevin O’Hora 38Pts, James Keane 38Pts, John Nestor 37Pts, Christopher Ryan 37Pts, Michael Quish 37Pts and Joe McDonald 36Pts. A very tense playoff saw the lead change on numerous occasions but it was Club Captain Chris Ahern who held off the challenge of Pat Ryan and Joe McDonald. Full result: 1st Chris Ahern with combined score of 62Pts followed by Joe McDonald in 2nd with 59Pts, James Keane in 3rd with 59Pts and Kevin O’Hora in 4th with 59Pts. Category 1 was won by Pat Ryan and Category 2 by Liam Downey. Nearest the Pin went to Vice Captain John O’Connell while longest drive went to Mathew Kennedy. Best Visitor on the day was Brendan Ryan with 39Pts. The Junior President’s prize was won by Evan McGrath with 41Pts with Michael Culhane in 2nd with 40Pts while the Ladies Competition saw Margo O’Doherty win out.

Everyone gathered in the Ballykisteen Hotel on Saturday evening where there was lively banter, food, and of course the prize giving ceremony which included the prizes for the August Monthly Medal which was kindly sponsored by Ballykisteen Hotel and Golf Resort. Then we had Pat’s President’s prize presentation and in his speech Pat thanked all those that made his two year term so enjoyable and offered to continue to support the club and teams as much as he can. No details are available to print but I believe a memorable night was had by all.
