It’s been a busy few weeks for the club with competition in all kinds of events from Adventure races to international Ironman competitions.
First off the highlight of the club year, the annual Carrick On Suir Triathlon Club Sprint Triathlon. While Sunday morning saw grey clouds replace the magnificent sunlight of the previous day, this couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm in transition as first time relay teams and seasoned veterans racked up ready for the day.
With a cool breeze and a fast flow in the river the promise of a PB beckoned. First out of the water was Rory Sexton of Blackwater TC, followed by Brendan Neary. This split the pack and they raced off into the distance, with the podium finishing out as Rory Sexton, Ian Farrell of Pulse TC and Brendan Neary.
First male vet home was Tommy Barnes with first Female vet going to Anna McGrane. The relay was won by Relay RMD. All in all a great days racing with a friendly and relaxed environment.
Special thanks to the local Gardai, Carrick Town Council, the Red Cross, the River Rescue, Davin Club, the Handball alley and Carrick Credit union. Also heartfelt thanks to all club members who turned up on the day, I don’t think I’ve ever seen transition put up and taken down so quickly. You are the club!
In other news congratulations to David Shelly, Kevin Shelly, Kenny Curren and Rolf Power for completing the torturous Ironman Austria, with a non wetsuit swim and temperatures of 40 degrees this one was not for the faint hearted. Also mentioned in dispatches are Laura Carton for Hell of the West, Kevin Loughman, Gareth Coleman and Mick Shelly for TriAthlone plus Brian Sweeney, David Grace and Francis Kennedy for The Pikeman Rosslare. In addition some fine performances in the inaugural Viking Marathon from Sean Owens, Stephen Gough, Richie Waring, Andy Mulligan, Martin Lydon, Christine Crowley, Sinead Nolan and Pat Crowley
A special word of thanks to all those who attended the Barry McCarthy Memorial Swim on June 30th, this event is very special to the club and your support is greatly appreciated.
Finally the club would like to pass it condolences on to club members Stan Power, Warren Flavin and Francis Kennedy whose respective mothers passed away during the past few weeks, ar dheis de go raibh a anam.
