Thurles Cadets enjoy great success

The National competitions for the Order of Malta cadets were held in Lisnaskea, Co. Fermanagh at the start of July.

A number of cadets had qualified from the regional competitions to get to this stage. Thurles Cadets competed in Under 13 (junior) Girl First Aid Individual, Under 16 (senior) Girl First Aid Individual, Two-Person Team, Footdrill, Cadet of the Year Under 13 and Cadet of the Year Under 16.

These teams and individuals trained hard and put in a lot of work over the past number of months in preparation for these competitions and it paid off.

The Thurles Cadet Unit brought home plenty of silverware including first place in the First Aid Two-Person Team, Junior Individual Girl and Junior Cadet of the Year. They placed second in the Footdrill display and third overall in the Footdrill competition.

The cadets did themselves, their leaders, their trainers and their parents proud, both through their participation and their great successes. Everyone gained a lot of valuable experience by taking part.

Outside of the traditional competitions, the cadets had been working on their costumes for the movie-themed disco. Thurles won this with their "Alice in Wonderland" theme cleverly picked by one of our senior cadets. This included singing, dancing and some very bright and unusual costumes!

They had a fantastic weekend and participated in all activities across the weekend.

Finally, we would like to thank the leaders who trained all of these talented young people, and a big thanks to the parents, who supported their children every step of the way.
