North Tipperary County Councillor Seamie Hanafin expressed his disappointment that a political decision should block such a major stand out project for North Tipperary.
Cllr Hanafin (Fianna Fail) said, “ I am hugely disappointed that a political decision has been taken to block this project. I believe that this would have provided a massive financial boost for the area, as well as much needed employment.
The proposed Tipperary Venue was much more than just a casino - it also contained a massive equestrian development to rival that of the world renowned Aachen in Germany. The development also would contain a Horse Racing track which would have attracted some of the biggest races in the world, such as the Breeders Cup. The Venue had a 5,000 seater music venue, a hotel and golf course. The casino itself was needed to make all these fantastic, non contentious developments financially possible.
This decision comes from a Government, which recently announced other massive setbacks for Tipperary North, such as the 22 beds which were lost in the Community Hospital of the Assumption in Thurles, as well as all progress on the Thurles bypass being stopped. It is clear from these decisions, that the honeymoon period for our government TD’s has truly come to an end”.
