AIB branch closure, Templemore, Relocating to AIB Thurles Closure date: 19th April 2013
Friday April 19th last was a red letter day for Allied Irish Bank’s association with the town of Templemore. The bank closed its doors for the last time, relocating the business to the Thurles office.
When contacted, we were informed that AIB’s decision to close and amalgamate branches and sub-offices across the country follows a detailed review of their banking services and is a regrettable but necessary step required to help return AIB to viability and provide a return to the taxpayer.
In making this decision, AIB is acutely aware of the need to continue to make some banking services available locally. In addition to looking after our customers in Thurles where the AIB staff have relocated to, AIB has an arrangement in place with An Post to ensure that those living and working in Templemore have the option of carrying out the following banking transactions at their local post office, which is open Monday-Friday and on half days on Saturdays:
• Cash lodgements
• Cheques lodgements - up to €10,000 per cheque
• Coin lodgement - €200 per week
AIB has a dedicated SME Cash Management team which has been meeting with business customers to discuss their cash management requirements and the alternative services available, e.g. merchant terminals, CIT services, etc.
• Withdrawal of up to €600 per day using an AIB ATM/Debit Card
• Cash and cheque lodgements
• Payment of AIB Credit Card bill with cash or Debit Card.
Denis O’Callaghan, Head of AIB Branch Banking said: “We have seen a very significant change in the way our customers wish to do their banking. As a result of this, many of our branches have seen a large decline in customer visits. Notwithstanding this, branches will remain an important part of AIB’s overall distribution strategy and will be complemented by an enhanced online service. Customers in areas impacted by the closure of Templemore branch will be able to carry out their banking activities through AIB Thurles and through new arrangements put in place in the local post offices in Templemore and Borrisoleigh.
“All customer account numbers, cheque books, direct debits, standing orders, ATM/Debit Cards and any credit facilities will remain the same. Customers in each area have been provided with details of their new branch and local An Post services and staff are available to discuss all aspects of the changes.”
