Over 55 certified tax advisers were conferred by CPA Ireland at ceremonies in Cork and Dublin this past month.

The CTax Qualification is specifically designed for financial and legal professionals who wish to gain an advanced understanding of the latest tax issues affecting business.

The course places particular emphasis on the practical application of tax law.

Speaking of the increasing appeal of this qualification, David FitzGerald, member services director with CPA Ireland, said: “We found that our members and accountants in general, are eager to up-skill in tax. This course increases the skill sets of participants, increasing their attractiveness to employers whilst also demonstrating their ambition and appetite for improvement.

“It is not too onerous in terms of a time commitment, as the course is run on Saturdays only. Since its roll out in 2011 we have seen a significant increase in demand for this course and in 2012 we set up the Cork base for the qualification.

“The qualification has also become popular with non CPA members and legal professionals to the extent that 25 per cent of those attending the 2014 course are non CPA members.”

The CTax course is run by CPA Ireland in collaboration with Griffith College and the development of the course was funded by CPA Ireland Skillnet.
