GOAL would like to say a big “thank you” to Ann Murray and committee for organising a pop-up shop in Roscrea which raised a total of €3,544.18 in aid of GOAL’s emergency response appeal to the earthquake in Nepal.
Also a special mention to Michael Madden, proprietor who provided the premises free of charge. GOAL’s Regional Director, Darren Hanniffy was one of the first emergency responders to arrive in Nepal from GOAL. Hanniffy witnessed the devastation in some of these hard to reach areas and worked with rescue teams to respond to the disaster. Hanniffy said: “While the situation in Kathmandu was extremely serious, aid was reaching these areas. However, the same could not be said for those stranded in outlying villages. GOAL has distributed kits which include blankets, tarpaulins and mats to protect families and small children from the cold; a hygiene kit; towels, a jerry can; a bucket and several more urgently required items.” GOAL is also working in Thade, a village where 96% of the households were damaged or destroyed, distributing CGI metal sheeting to households, to help build shelter from the coming rains.About two weeks remain until monsoon rains begin to significantly affect ongoing relief operations. There is concern that there may not be sufficient capacity to distribute all relief items before the monsoon, particularly into those areas accessible only by helicopters. GOAL are working hard to deliver aid in these areas. Please donate to help our Emergency Response. Those who wish to donate to GOAL’S Nepal Earthquake relief effort can visit www.goalglobal.org
