Good job it wasn’t a final.
The hurling year deserves to end on a better note than this highly touted semi-final proved to offer. Tipp. suffered the worst half hour since Waterford destroyed us back in ‘59, only this time it was the concluding session of the game. From a quite acceptable parity on forty minutes we were riddled under and over the bar to the tune of minus eighteen. It made for painful viewing, hurtful listening and in retrospect can’t be other than sad reading. The day had begun more cheerfully as the minors gave an impressive exhibition in de-throning holders Galway, giving us a stake in the September 9th bill of fare.
