XL Challenge In Aid Of Suicide Group

THE launch of the XL Challenge 2013 will be held at the Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh, this Friday, February 15, at 7.30pm. The launch will be performed by Alan Kelly, Junior Minister for Public Transport; Cllr Lalor McGee, Mayor of Nenagh; John G O’Dwyer, mountaineer and author, and Michael Egan, founder and national c-oordinator of Living Links.

The XL Challenge 2013 consist of two hiking challenges and will take place in the Silvermine mountain range in aid of the ‘Living Links’ an organisation, which provides assertive outreach support to the suicide bereaved. Founded in Cloughjordan in 2002, Living Links now offers its service across the country.

On Saturday, April 6, the 2013 XL Challenge will bring walkers on a choice of two hikes in the Silvermine mountain range to raise money for Living Links. The challenge will consist of a longer hike (Hike A) for the fitter, experienced hill walker and will take five to six hours. There is also the option of a shorter hike (Hike B) for anyone with reasonable fitness, which will take three to four hours.

A number of awareness and fundraising events will be held over the coming months. A concert by international singer David Parkes will be held on Sunday, March 10, at 8pm at St Michaels & Johns Church, Cloughjordan. Tickets available from Pat O’Brien on 085-7256650.
