VEC Chief Moving to Galway & Roscommon
The Chief Executive Officer of North Tipperary Vocational Education Committee, Mr David Leahy is to depart the county after seven years as leader of the organisation, to take up the position of CEO of the new Galway City,County and Roscommon VEC.
The move comes under the amalgamation of the VEC’s as initiated by Education Minister Mr Ruairi Quinn and will see South and North Tipperary joined together with current South Tipp CEO Mrs Fionuala McGeever taking over as CEO of the new amalgamated body.
Mr Leahy informed members at a meeting of the VEC in Roscrea this week that a meeting he had attended of the CEO designates of the new Education Training Boards with departmental officials recently, confirmed the moves.
“I am being congratulated all the time, but I know that I will feel very sad to be leaving Noth Tipperary because I applied to come down here and get stuck in. It was something which I choose to pursue and I am extremely happy here, but now I am being made to move to Galway. I have seven years done here in North Tipperary but I have to say that I have not had one cross word with any of the 25 members of staff here or the officials. It is a very happy place to work because they are all self starters and very motivated people,” Mr Leahy said. See this weeks Tipperary Star for full report.
