Tom Steps Down After 40 Years

Tom Houlihan’s career of almost 40 years in banking came to a finale just at the end of December 2012. Tom first joined the AIB group way back in 1974 when he was employed at the West End Branch in London.

His next move came 3 years later when he moved to the Regional Office in Athlone where he spent 2 years, returning to Nenagh in late 1986. Ten years later Tom came with his family on transfer to Templemore and was appointed Manager of the branch in Bank Street in 1997, a position he has held until his retirement in December. He has enjoyed working with the local business community and appreciates the co-operation and support he has received from both staff and customers during his time in Templemore. He adds that he is extremely disappointed with the forthcoming closure of the AIB branch.

Tom is married to Margie, a Dental Surgeon with the HSE based in Nenagh. Their three children Colin, Laura and Gary were educated in Our Lady’s Secondary School Templemore. Colin, a consultant with Deloitte Digital, is based in London. Laura, a solicitor lives in Sydney but currently is on 4 month secondment to Fiji and Gary is an analyst with Blackrock in London.

An ardent rugby fan, Tom and a group of friends enjoy travelling to the International games as well as supporting Munster in their competitions.

Both Tom and Margie are active tennis players with Templemore Tennis Club. They return often to their native Cork and when Cork and Tipp meet in hurling games you will always be reminded the following day which colour is worn, particularly if Cork won….

Tom is wished many happy years in retirement – he can now work on reducing the golf handicap.
