Tom Crowned Tipperary Champion

Eason, in association with RTÉ 2FM’s Tubridy, is delighted to announce that Tom Anderson from Ballinahinch National School is the winner of the Eason Tipperary County Bee heat. Tom will now take part in the Provincial Spelling Bee competition before the overall final in June, where the four provincial winners will battle it out to be crowned the 2013 Eason Spelling Bee Champion.

Eason has teamed up with RTÉ 2fm’s Tubridy to deliver Ireland’s ultimate spelling contest, now in its third year running, for primary school students with entry levels rising significantly since last year.

According to David Field, Head of Marketing and Retail Development at Eason, “To date the Eason Spelling Bee has proven to be a popular and fun initiative to encourage primary school children across Ireland to get excited about spelling. We believe that spelling helps children to understand words which are the vital building blocks that support literacy and reading. This enables learning and ultimately gives them greater self-confidence. We have seen a record number of entries this year and it is great to see such interest in an initiative which centres on the overarching message of literacy in Ireland.”

Speaking about RTÉ 2fm’s partnership with the Eason Spelling Bee, Ryan Tubridy, RTÉ presenter said, “Last year’s Spelling Bee was such great fun, we at Tubridy, weekday mornings on RTÉ 2fm are delighted to be a part of it again. We wish all hopefuls lots of luck and hope that the county finals get off to a buzzing start over the next few months!”

The Eason Spelling Bee is part of an overall Eason literacy and reading initiative that aims to inspire children to develop a greater appreciation of words in a fun and educational way, and to encourage them to perfect their spelling and also to hone their pronunciation skills.
