Tipperary Man Gets Life Imprisonment for Murder
A 24-year-old Tipperary man has been given a life sentence for murdering a woman in Limerick last year.
Jerry McGrath pleaded guilty to the murder of mother-of-two Sylvia Roche Kelly, in a hotel in Limerick just over a year ago.
Thirty-three-year-old Ms Kelly, from Sixmilebridge in Co Clare, was found in a room in the Clarion Hotel in the city on December 8th, 2007.
She was lying face down in the bathtub. She had been out celebrating her 33rd birthday the night before.
Gardai said she died following a violent assault, although the exact cause of death was not known.
Ms Roche Kelly is survived by her husband, Lorcan, and her children, Shane and Aisling, who were aged 12 and four when she was killed.
Today, before a packed court room and wearing a black pinstripe suit and white shirt, 24-year-old Jerry McGrath, of Ballywalter in Knockavilla, Co Tipperary, pleaded guilty to her murder.
He was sentenced by Justice Paul Carney today (January 12th).
