Tipperary Can Expect Tourism Boost

TIPPERARY is expecting a bumper tourism harvest as a result of a special tourism promotion of the county at the recent National Ploughing Championships in New Ross.

Tourism trade from Tipperary attended the event among them Eddie Moran from North Tipperary Tourism company and Bernie Leonard Shannon Development’s Tourism Officer for Tipperary and Offaly.

The tourism trade’s participation at the Championships was co-ordinated by Shannon Development who hosted a special Shannon region tourism stand at the event.

“The National Ploughing Championships is one of the largest shows of its kind in Europe attracting over 190,000 visitors and an ideal platform at which to promote holiday offers.

“To help us reap the benefits of the event we devised an exclusive range of special value Shannon region holiday offers. We were delighted with the large numbers of people who visited us at our stand and as a result we are confident of a bumper tourism harvest for Tipperary and our region.” says Aisling Travers, tourism marketing executive with Shannon Development.

Among the special tourism offers highlighted at the event were – a range of special offers from North Tipperary Tourism Company; A two night B&B with dinner offer at Kinnitty Castle Hotel near Birr in County Offaly for €139 per person sharing; a two night autumn B&B break with dinner for €69 per person sharing at the Oakwood Arms Hotel in Shannon, County. Clare’ a 25% discount off a medieval banquet at Bunratty Castle and a similar discount off the day visitor price at Bunratty Castle and Folk Park; A two night B&B plus dinner offer for just €89 per person sharing at the Greenhills Hotel and Leisure Centre in Limerick City, and a B&B Ireland offer of a B&B break at up to 1,000 B&B’s throughout Ireland from just €32 per person sharing per night.

While the championships may have traditionally been seen as an agricultural/farming event, it has now gained major profile within the business community in 2012 resulting in over 1,000 exhibitors, covering multiple sectors including, tourism, services, and retailing
