Tipp Town at Bottom Place in National List

Citizens and Shareholders have placed Tipperary Town 100th in Ireland’s Top 100 Towns and Cities 2012. The survey, based on 70% citizen’s opinion and 30% local stakeholders, ranked towns and cities in categories including pricing and availability of carparking, standard of retail, dining, and entertainment, and general presentation.
Stakeholders of Tipp Town businesses ranked the town 99th in the country for car parking availability and pricing, 99th for Town Streetscape and Presentation, and 100th for safety. Security, and family friendliness factor into the safety figure, where only 59% of Tipp town stakeholders felt secure, as opposed to the top ranking town, Carrickmacross in Co. Monaghan, where 95% of stakeholders felt secure.
Tipp Town Mayor Ruaidhri Devitt accepts that survey highlights areas the town “needs work in”, but also said that “huge leaps” have been made by the local council and volutneer groups to improve the town. He gave the example of a tidy towns volunteer group who every week “do huge work in helping clean up the streets”.
Other Tipperary towns to make the list are Cahir at 29th, Clonmel at 33rd, Nenagh at 68th, Roscrea at 72nd, Thurles at 74th, and Carrick-On-Suir at 82nd. The survey was limited to 100 towns, and so some, such as Cashel, weren’t included. The most positive result from the survey was stakeholders placing Nenagh’s local government as 6th in the country, though Nenagh placed 98th safety-wise.
