Thurles Toastmasters - Celebrating A Special Year

The first Thurles Toastmasters meeting of the 2012/2013 season took place in the Anner Hotel Thurles on Wednesday 5th September. This year the club is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of its foundation.

They wish to issue an open invitation to any new prospective member hoping to improve or gain experience in public speaking skills in a warm friendly environment to come along to their next meeting or any meeting throughout the year. Also, they would like to issue a call to all past members to join us in our special year.

They had two great speeches on our opening night. Firstly, Trish Loughnane gave us a humorous, entertaining speech on swimming aerobics entitled ‘Action Aqua’. Secondly, Maureen Broderick gave us an enjoyable, interesting speech entitled ‘Love Ireland’, on highlighting the vast array of Irish tourism attractions under utilized and solutions to promoting Ireland as a first choice destination. The first half of the meeting concluded with Paul Sheridan giving a thoughtful speech on the impact of Garda Station closures on rural Ireland. In the second half of the meeting, Tom Russell provided philosophical topics to the group to discuss which included the titles ‘The Weather’, ‘Journey of life’, ‘Tipperary is no longer the Premier County’ and ‘It is better to travel hopefully than to arrive’.

Their next meeting takes place at the Anner Hotel, Thurles on the 19th September 2012 at 8pm sharp and finishes around 10pm. If you would like further information you can contact Pat on 087-7730403 or email speaker4173@hotmail.com. You can also follow them on Facebook at ‘Toastmaster Thurles’.
