Thurles Drama Groups -All My Sons - Simply Outstanding

It was standing ovations all the way for Thurles Drama Group last week with their festival production of All My Sons by Arthur Miller at The Source proving to be a resounding success.

This is an edge-of-the-seat piece of theatre with the plot twisting and turning throughout. And in Thurles Drama Group, All My Sons had the perfect vehicle to convey the storyline with an air of professionalism which would have made most commercial company’s exceedingly proud.

This wasn’t a happy-clappy play by any manner or means - in fact laughs were very rare indeed. But, one could only sit back and marvel at the brilliance of this amateur group - the ten on-stage performers bringing their A game to proceedings right the way through.

From the moment you entered the theatre you caught a glimpse of the kind of standards Thurles Drama Group has attained. Their set was magnificent and with the entire show staged in the back garden of the Keller home, the crew could afford to go to extra lengths to ensure that just the right impression was created. They did and it was a credit to designer Anne O’Dwyer, Manager Mary McLoughlin and the entire crew, of which there were many members.

Not only did the set look the part, the players did too and it was quite clear that a lot of attention had been paid to costumes, hair and make-up. Set in August 1947, the dress sense was of that era and considering the sweltering heat and humidity spoken of in the drama, Catherine Murphy (costumes), Greta Murphy (make-up and hair) and their crew got it just about spot on. Make-up was very important in this one as it helped reflect and enhance the conditions and mood of the characters, especially George Deever, played by the excellent Donal Ryan.
