The tightly knit community in Moyne Templetuohy is this week rallying round the parents, family and friends of the late Martin Costigan who lost his life following a tragic drowning accident on Scarborough beach, Perth, Australia.
The 28 year old engineer, who had been home on a visit at Christmas, was enjoying the delights of the surf on one of the hottest days of the year in Perth, when tragedy struck. He lost his fight for life as paramedics tried in vain to save him.
Son of Connie and Eileen Costigan of Toher, Templetuohy, Martin was one of six boys and three girls in the very popular and well known family whose involvement in the community was marked. Martin himself played hurling and football for the local GAA club and was a member of the side which won four Mid u-21 titles in succession, having lined out in defence and on occasion in midfield for the side.
