St. Theresa’s Nursing Home’s Ethos of Care Stands the Test of Time

t. Theresa’s Nursing Home has been at the centre of residential care in the community for over thirty two years and is regarded as one of the best.

Ann Fitzpatrick, Matron, says that “Our staff remain committed to our ethos of care, which is to care for a resident as we would wish our own relative to be cared for.” It is an ethos which has stood the test of time. The sense of warmth and friendliness which greets the visitors to the Nursing Home certainly shows how the ethos is still alive and well today. One of the many accolades sent to St. Theresa’s “Heartfelt thanks for all your kindness and splendid care’’ ‘’You are all so wonderful at your jobs’’. ‘’We are all blessed to have such a special place in Thurles.”

St. Theresa’s offers a friendly approach to caring with each individual needs being at the centre of the facility. A recent HIQA inspection found the care of Resident’s to be of a ‘high standard.’ The home is a hub of activity and allows residents to pursue their own favourite pastimes. Activities are central, so whether it’s trips to the local Source Centre, cinema, or a drink in the local pub, everything can be arranged. Daily activities include exercise classes, arts and crafts, sing along afternoons, reminiscence therapy.

With up to forty staff members, recruitment is very important to the quality of care offered in St. Theresa’s. The staff have been employed as much for their caring personalities as for their experience. They share their lives with the residents and this leads to a great sense of community.
