Prendergast To Host Conference

Labour MEP for Munster, Phil Prendergast, will host a major conference on research and development during the Irish Presidency of the European Council in 2013. The event will attract scientists, science organisations and companies from over 100 countries and over 100 global research partnerships.

The major conference at the European Parliament will be titled “EU Science: Global Challenges, Global Collaboration” and is co-hosted with Irish organisation Intelligence in Science.

Speaking from Brussels, Ms Prendergast said “This conference will place the Irish research community at the centre of a global discussion on the scientific response to global challenges. It will provide a major opportunity to display the best of Irish and European research to the top researchers around the world.

“I am hopeful that this conference will help increase Irish participation in research and development particularly Horizon 2020- the EU’s research program.

“The conference will also offer an opportunity for Irish researchers and companies involved in R&D to partner with global organisations and conglomerates in research projects which will be mutually beneficial.

“I believe that this conference will directly lead to a growth in Irish research and development for third-level institutions and companies. This growth will be key in any future recovery from the current crisis.”
