Painting Scheme To Commence In Roscrea
A painting grant scheme for the town of Roscrea has been welcomed by members of North Tipperary County Council, although precise details of the scheme have yet to be teased out. Councillor Denis Ryan welcomed the scheme at the February meeting of the council and said that it could be a great success and could have a very positive impact on the town centre.
However, Cllr Ryan also wondered if properties which were not painted would look to be be in very poor condition alongside ones which have been.
Councillor Michael Smith understood that the scheme in Roscrea covered Main Street only and not the entire town centre area. Dirctor of Services Mr Matt Shortt said that the pilot scheme has been drawn up following recent comments about town centres in the county. Similar schemes will be rolled out by Thurles, Nenagh and Templemore Town Councils, he said, and they are all being designed to be as simple and straightforward as possible.
In acknowledging that there is a chance that some premises not included in the scheme, could look out of sorts, Mr Shortt said that the shortfalls and advantages of the scheme will only become apparent as time progresses. However, he suggested that in order for the scheme to have an impact, painting should take place in a confined area rather than having it too spread out.
The scheme was also welcomed by Cllrs Smith and John Hogan who looked forward to it commencing.
