Oliver Cast Announced by Phoenix

Phoenix Productions has announced it's cast line-up for the forthcoming production of Oliver which will run in the Premier Hall from August 4th -7th.

The British musical, with music and lyrics by Lionel Bart is based upon the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. It premiered in the West End in 1960, enjoying a long run, a successful Broadway production in 1963 and further tours and revivals. It was made into a musical film in 1968 and a new London production opened in January 2009.

However, Oliver - Phoenix Productions style - is sure to be a big hit in the Cathedral Town with over 60 members ready to take to the stage with numbers such as Food, Glorious Food, Where Is Love, Consider Yourself, You've got to Pick a Pocket or Two, I'd Do Anything, Oom Pah Pah, As Long as He Needs Me, and Reviewing the Situation being among the many musical highlights of a show much loved throughout the globe.

Having held a number of workshops over the last few weeks, Director Gerard O'Brien, together with Musical Director David Wray and Choreographer Aisling Doyle have decided to name two Artful Dodgers and two Olivers. And, they are also on the lookout for a few extra young lads for the chorus. Boys, from fourth class upwards are invited to come along and join in what will be a great experience - there are already fourteen in the boys chorus and another ten would be desirable.

"The more boys we have, the better the sound will be and we would certainly welcome lads along. Our next rehearsal will be on Sunday June 20th in the Confraternity Hall at 2:00pm and we welcome anyone who wishes to get involved," Gerard said.

With the summer holidays just around the corner what better way for lads to while the time away than to be part of a blockbusting production which will see audiences travel from all over Tipperary and even further afield to catch the show. Oliver the musical has universal appeal and the BBC series hosted by Graham Norton and featuring Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber in their search for a Nancy resulted in a revival of popularlity for the show. Of course that series featured Jessie Buckley in the final - a girl who has close connections with Thurles having attended the Ursuline Secondary School.

The Phoenix Productions cast includes:

Oliver - Gavin Murphy and Philip Ryan.

Dodger - Darragh Byrne and Darren O'Sullivan

Fagin - Frank Tuohy

Mr Mumble - Shane Willoughby

Nancy - Katie Lawless

Bet - Claire Lawless

Mr Sowerberry - Graham Maher

Mrs Sowerberry - Emma Jane Purcell

Noah Claypole - Nathan Carroll
