O’Cuiv Lashes Farm Groups Over CAP Stance
At a conference in Kilcoran Lodge Hotel, Cahir, entitled The Future in Farming, Fianna Fail’s Deputy Eamonn O Cuiv hit out at the policies of IFA, ICMSA and ICSA regarding the CAP talks where they propose that no limit should exist to the amount a farmer could receive in his Single Farm Payment (SFP), and the historic system should remain in place until 2020.
The party’s spokesperson for Agriculture said that all payments should be capped at €50,000 and more of the money should be directed to smaller farmers to help them survive in rural Ireland.
Donie Shine of the Milk Rights Group defended the idea of capping the payments and said the smaller farmer should be protected at all cost.
The conference panel, under the chair of PJ English, was Deputy O Cuiv, FF spokesman on Agriculture; Pat McCormack, ICMSA; Edmond Phelan, ICSA; Donal Shine, Milk Rights Group, and Flor McCarthy, IFA.
