NT Network Welcomes Theresa Lowe
Network North Tipperary had their first meeting of 2013 on Tuesday 22nd of January in the Abbey Court hotel. This was the first meeting for the new committee voted in prior to Christmas, Louisa Condon of the Ant team is the new president, accountant Mary Murray is staying on as treasurer; Joan McGowan of the Fairways bar in Kilruane is the new secretary and Emma D’Arcy of Integral marketing is the new PRO.
The first meeting saw the network gladly welcome barrister Theresa Lowe, most recognized for her role as presenter of ‘where in the world?’ A popular Irish TV show that ran from 1989 to 1996. ‘Where in the world’s’ (pre celtic tiger years) was a staple in Irish homes on a Sunday evening, following the other much acclaimed favourite Glenroe. At the time watching both shows was as de rigueur as going to mass.
Theresa Lowe began her career as a continuity announcer in 1983 and her promotion as presenter of ‘Where in the world’ would have been relatively unusual for a woman at this time. ‘Where in the world’ put her on the celebrity map and as a result Theresa presented many prestigious TV awards such as the Jacob’s awards and Tops of the Towns, and did the honours for several St Patricks day parades.
She also became a fixture on Radio presenting kids’ show ‘The Breakfast Club’ on 2FM and an adult show called ‘Theresa Lowe’s love songs’.
At Network North Tipperary Theresa discussed how her career progressed from continuity announcer to much acclaimed presenter of a popular TV programme and how this manifested itself into wonderful opportunities and relative fame and how this in fact paved the way for many of today’s lady presenters.
She then discussed her radical career change from TV presenter to barrister, whereupon she made the difficult decision to leave a glittering career and to change tack and to study for the bar at Kings Inn in Dublin. This in fact took several years and Theresa referred to the fact that at this point she had to literally start again and prove herself, once more in another male dominated environment. Theresa pointed out that at this point her family, especially her husband acclaimed musician Frank Mc Namara
was a wonderful support and that without them; she could not have achieved her goals.
Theresa now has a thriving career as a barrister, where she specializes in high court bails, criminal law, personal injuries and mediation.
The Network thoroughly enjoyed Theresa Lowe’s presentation, as her work life reflects the changes and challenges experienced by many of the networks entrepreneurs.
