New Chairman for Thurles Musical Society

After 22 years, Thurles Musical Society has a new Chairman following the election of Jack Gleeson, who takes over from long serving Mary Butler.

The AGM in Hayes Hotel on Thursday evening last brought the curtain down on 33 years of consecutive officership for Mary, as she had been Secretary for 11 years prior to taking on the role of Chairperson - a role she carried off with great distinction, efficiency and success.

In a wide ranging address to AGM, the outgoing Chairman stated as she brought her comments to a close that she had indicated at the previous AGM of her intention to step aside, and was doing so now.

She had, she said, some small regrets during her term of office, especially over the last few years when the nature of her job meant that she was unable to give the position as much time as it demanded. However, she added that she would still be involved, and Thurles Musical Society is in her blood. She next weeks issue for full report.
