Nenagh town centre footpaths ‘in a poor state’

THE footpaths around Nenagh were in a “poor state in pockets”, Cllr Tom Moylan told Nenagh Town Council. He singled out Pearse Street for particular mention. “It is in bad condition. What ever about outlaying areas, we need to be looking at the town centre,” he said in relation to the town’s roads programme for the coming year.
Town engineer Peter Fee replied that the council had planned to carry out work in Pearse Street but the weather was “too cold”. He also pointed out that parts of the street came under national roads and were not part of their remit.
Cllr Moylan agreed with him that there was also no point in repairing footpaths and roads that would be affected by the water upgrade programme and other works, but maintained it was a pity the town council did not have full control over Nenagh’s main street.
Cllr Virginia O’Dowd was told by Mr Fee that the footpath opposite MacDonagh Park on St Conlon’s Road was also part of the county. Town manager Marcus O’Connor told the Labour councillor that, in relation to Clonaslee, the council would have some money put aside for unfinished estates.
Other areas where work will be carried out are Coill Fuinseoige and Stafford Street, but Mr Fee revealed that footpaths around the town would be repaired throughtout the year and roads would be done when tenders had gone out and the contractors came to Nenagh.
