Nenagh Students Get Animated Over LIT Course

NENAGH students interested in a career in the exciting multimedia and digital animation sector have had their local options boosted after courses at the LIT Clonmel campus officially became part of the prestigious Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD).

Bringing the suite of creative multimedia and digital animation production programmes at Clonmel under the LSAD brand significantly enhances the courses, with LSAD having an outstanding international reputation and ranked among the top 50 fashion schools in the world.

The newly-achieved status of the course will connect Clonmel’s existing honours degrees in Creative Multimedia and Digital Animation Production to international award-winning art and design programmes in fashion, ceramics, visual communications, painting, printmaking, teacher education, sculpture and combined media in Limerick.

Announcing the move, head of school at LSAD Mike Fitzpatrick said: “The fusion of creative media and art and design programmes is quite unique and provides students with unprecedented opportunities in today’s ever changing employment markets.”

Clonmel is now LSAD’s top location for creative media. Located on the ring road between the Cashel and Fethard roundabouts, the campus is currently home of the creative multimedia and digital animation production programmes.

Both of these well-regarded degrees have a particular emphasis on the application of creative technologies within the interactive design, digital media and animation fields.

The creative multimedia programme enrolled its first students in 2001 and has since been at the forefront in the development of graduates with combined creative, interactive design and technological skills since. The programme, which was updated in 2012, reflects both industry and academic best practice in the digital media field.

The high standard being achieved by the creative multimedia students has been recognised internationally by being shortlisted in prestigious competitions such as the Adobe 2012 Design Achievement Awards and the ELIA Languages through Lenses competition 2012 in Berlin.

Digital animation production is the latest offering at the LSAD Clonmel in response to the growing animation and visual effects fields in Ireland.

Developed in close consultation with the industry, the programme embodies the latest in creative technologies and animation techniques.

Digital animation production has been designed to specifically meet the requirements of the digital animation, visual effects and compositing industries both nationally and internationally.
