Nenagh JPC To Meet Voluntary Groups

VOLUNTRARY groups based in Nenagh are to be asked to make submissions to Nenagh Joint Policing Committee as a way of improving the committee’s effectiveness. The decision was made at the JPC’s February meeting during a discussion on the future of such committees nationwide.
The suggestion was made by Supt Bob Noonan, who said there were voluntary groups in the town dealing with children and highlighting issues such as drugs awareness.
“The JPC could listen to them and take on board what they do and say,” he said. “The HSE has a lot to offer around the work we do.”
The Garda chief revealed that “my sense from day one was that it would involve everyone. A lot of other people have an input to make.”
He used the committee’s approach to dealing with Halloween as an example of how it could engage with different groups.
“My personal view is that some of these groups feel they are just outside the door,” said Supt Noonan.
Community representative Martin Langton suggested that an open forum be held at which representatives from local groups could make submissions.
However, Cllr Virginia O’Dowd, while agreeing that the suggestion “made sense”, felt it would be better if individual groups were asked to attend JPC meetings on a one-to-one basis.
Town manager Marcus O’Connor suggested setting up a sub-committee to explore which groups would be suitable to make presentations.
