Nenagh Council To Contact Estate Developer

NENAGH Town Council will endeavour to contact the developer responsible for Castleoaks in Stereame with “a view to coming up with a resolution to the on-going problems with the lack of estate management in the estate which now sees the fence lying on the roadway and is a potential health and safety concern”.
The estate’s condition was raised by Cllr Seamus Morris in a motion before the council.
Cllr Morris described the situation in the estate as “truly shocking”, insisting that “people paid a lot for houses out there and they deserve better”.
Fine Gael’s Cllr Conor Delaney agreed that the estate was “in a bad, bad way”, while Councillor Hughie McGrath, Independent, described the situation as “not fair”.
Town manager Marcus O’Connor revealed that “it is our understanding that it (Castleoaks estate) is in NAMA (National Asset Management Agency)”.
Mr O’Connor also revealed that the executive had “written to NAMA and we have not received a satisfactory response as of yet”.
In response, Cllr Tom Moylan, FG, described NAMA as “only a bank” and insisted that “we need to start getting tough with developers”. Cllr Moylan suggested that it should be made a condition that sites be “cleaned up” before planning time extensions be granted to developers.
Labour’S Cllr Virginia O’Dowd argued that “we need to be as strong as we can in this case”, while also insisting that the required improvements were “not going to cost a fortune”. “It’s not as if we are asking the developer to spend thousands of euro,” Cllr O’Dowd said.
“We shouldn’t be afraid of NAMA,” Cllr Morris added. “We need to put manners on them.”
