National Tidy Towns Success for North Tipp

Joe MacGrath, County Manager, North Tipperary County Council, congratulated committees in the different towns and villages throughout North Tipperary who competed in the National Tidy Towns’ Competition.

“Results from this year’s Tidy Towns Competition were very encouraging. All Tidy Towns groups in North Tipperary secured increased marks this year,’ he said.  “The competition rewards local communities who have improved their environmental surroundings.  North Tipperary County Council is actively working with the Tidy Towns Committees to ensure continued growth and development.”

North Tipperary County Council supports Tidy Town committees taking part in the National Tidy Towns Annual Competition. E70,000 is provided to Tidy Towns groups through North Tipperary County Council’s Tidy Towns Grant Scheme. This scheme has proved to be a very positive initiative since its introduction in 2002 and aims to reward and assist the good work carried out by Tidy Towns/Village Groups in North Tipperary.

The National Tidy Towns results were announced on Monday 10th September 2012 in the Helix in Dublin. Local towns and villages feature among the National winners as follows:National Can it! Award

Gold Medal Award
Birdhill Tidy Towns (310 points): Silver Medal Award
Terryglass Improvements Association (303 points)

Bronze Medal Award Ballina Tidy Towns (293 points) Endeavour Award (greatest increase in marks in the County since last year)
Killea  (235 points)

Birdhill received the highest marks in North Tipperary in this year’s competition, to finish only 2 points behind the overall winner, Abbeyshrule.

North Tipperary County Council’s Community and Enterprise Section provides a range of assistance to Tidy Towns groups through North Tipperary County Council Tidy Towns grants Scheme, Tiobraid Alainn, National Tree Week, National Spring Clean etc. A very well attended seminar also took place this year in Terryglass with the aim to assist Tidy Towns groups to increase marks in the National Tidy Towns competition. Tidy towns groups will continue to preserve and enhance the local environment for current and future generations.
