McGrath To Meet SUSI Management
Following numerous representations to the Minister for Education and to the SUSI Office, Independent TD Mattie McGrath has been invited to meet with SUSI Management to discuss first-hand the difficulties being experienced by Students who have applied for Higher Education Grants and to suggest ways that the system can be improved.
Students have experienced huge difficulties this year since the centralisation of the Higher Education Grant application Offices and a large number of students are still waiting for their grants to be finalised.
“Students and their parents are totally frustrated and desperate at this stage. Many students have had to drop out of their college course because they simply could not afford to keep attending without their grants. This is not acceptable.” Said Deputy McGrath
“The whole system has been a complete disaster since they centralised the office and massive improvements need to be made to the way they operate. There has been huge difficulties and inefficiencies such as further information being requested over and over again, information being requested that is not relevant and applicants not been made fully aware of what exactly they require. People are being informed that they have been granted and then days later get another letter seeking further information, students who should be getting the non-adjacent grant are only getting the adjacent and so on. The list is endless of the different problems that have been in encountered.”
“My Staff and I have been invited to meet with SUSI Management to discuss the difficulties that we have encountered and to discuss ways to improve the system and I hope that we can get it across to them how important it is that these problems are rectified for the future. People are at their wits end and we need honest answers on what’s going on.”
The meeting will take place tomorrow morning Tuesday 5th Feb at 9:45am in the SUSI Headquarters in Dublin.
