Manager Welcomes Gathering Fund

The Gathering Ireland 2013

The Gathering Ireland 2013

NORTH Tipperary county manager Joe MacGrath welcomed the announcement that the Gathering Ireland 2013 and IPB Insurance have established a fund to support local events and activities for the Gathering Ireland 2013.

The establishment of this fund is in response to the increasing number of events which have already been planned for 2013, indicating the growing momentum behind the initiative which is set to be a vital contributor to Ireland’s economic revival.

Mr MacGrath commented: “The Gathering Ireland 2013 is Ireland’s biggest ever tourism initiative, providing an opportunity for those with ancestral links or an affinity to Ireland to play a part in and benefit from its economic recovery. The Gathering Local Community Fund will allow communities to apply for funding through North Tipperary County Council to help them organise Gatherings which will attract overseas visitors to Tipperary in 2013.”

Some e2m will be dispersed by local authorities across the State to support gatherings that have the capacity to attract overseas visitors. Half of that will be used to support flagship events in every city and county with the other million going towards smaller, community events. The fund, which is a 50:50 partnership between IPB Insurance and The Gathering 2013 initiative, is in response to the rapidly growing number of gatherings being planned across the country for 2013.

The Gathering Local Community Fund will provide support to local and community Gathering event organisers and activities / projects that will drive international visitors to each county / city in the Republic.

Locally, the fund is being administered by the Community and Enterprise Department, North Tipperary County Council.

According to Attracta Lyons, local Gathering co-ordinator for North Tipperary: “The local community fund is open to groups or organisations who are organising Gatherings in 2013.Fund amounts will be for a minimum of e500 and a maximum of e2,500 and will be directly related to the number of overseas visitors that will be delivered.”

The core objective of the Gathering Ireland 2013 is to deliver an additional 325,000 overseas visitors to Ireland which will generate an additional e170m in revenue to the Irish economy in 2013 and create up to 3,000 new jobs across every county in Ireland. The Gathering Ireland encourages communities throughout Ireland to organise events / activities that have the capacity to directly attract more overseas visitors in 2013.

Further information on the Local Community Fund is available on www.tipperarynorth.ie where guidelines and application forms can be downloaded. Closing date for receipt of applications to Community & Enterprise Department, North Tipperary County Council, is November 30 at 5pm.
