Tipperary Regional Youth Service received money from the X-Hale Youth Awards Grant scheme through the Irish Cancer Society earlier in the year.

This money was granted to Cashel Neighbourhood Youth Project to develop an anti smoking campaign, the members of the youth project decided to create a programme for primary school students which would be peer lead.

The group spent the summer holidays creating an animation, a workbook and a programme which would be carried out in the schools. The group ran a pilot of the programme they created on Thursday the 4th of October with a group of 6th class girls in St. John the Baptist Primary school, in order to see if any changes need to be made to it.

Four senior members of the youth project ran the programme with the girls and it was a great success with all the girls pledging not to smoke.

Cashel Neighbourhood Youth Project would like to thank the principal, teachers and students of St. John the Baptist Girls Primary school for their support and assistance with this project.

The youth project will be showcasing their programme in Dublin on the 30th of October and they hope to be able to run this programme on a yearly basis in primary schools.
