Libraries Book Stock Shelved Latest Sad Chapter in Cuts Hits Hard

The library service in County Tipperary is unlikley to be able to purchase one single book for the forseable future, The Tipperary Star can reveal, due to the severe cuts being implimented across all sectors of the public service.

The dire financial situation facing Tipperary County Libraries has been exacerbated hugely by the latest round of cuts by Environment Minister Phil Hogan - his punishment to the country at large for the non payment of the Household Charge. Minister Hogan has sliced more than 3 million off the Local Government Funds for North and South Tipperary and this means that the Tipperary Joint Libraries Committee must face up to the challenge of trying to provide an up-to-date service without having up-to-date books. In effect the move will clobber those who have paid the household charge as well as those who have not and is seen as grossly unfair on all library users. See this weeks Tipperary Star for full story.
