Kelly Congratulates Paralympians

Minister Alan Kelly has congratulated all the Athletes on the Irish Paralympic Team for their wonderful results in the London games.

Ireland finished in 19th place on the medals table with eight gold, three silver and five bronze medals our biggest haul of medals ever.

The Minister said “I would also like to congratulate all our other athletes who competed and were not lucky enough to win a medal. Each of these athletes has improved their own personal bests or indeed in some cases has broken existing Irish records and it is a testament to their hard work and dedication to their sport. A special mention to Killaloe’s Jonathan McGrath who swam a season’s best time of 4 minutes 53.25 seconds, in the 400m freestyle and just missed out on making the final”.

“Following on from the success of our boxers and show jumpers in the Olympics, this continued success put Ireland well and truly on the world sporting map. They have lifted the hearts and spirits of a nation during these trying times and have been an inspiration to all proving that with the proper training anything is possible”.
