Kelly Clan To Gather In Tipp

The Kelly Clan is to hold its next gathering on 17-19 May 2013 at Dundrum House Hotel, close to the historic town of Cashel. The planned gathering will have a special appeal for Kellys throughout Ireland and indeed the extended Kelly diaspora overseas.

The gathering will include historical lectures, tours around the area, informal workshops and a personal family account.

The main speaker at the Gathering will be Australian, Aidan Kelly, the Kelly Clan’s Chief Recorder on genetic genealogy, who will present the latest analysis of the Kelly Y-DNA Study. The study commenced about six years ago and records the paternal profiles of Kelly Clan members. At present there are around 300 Kellys on the programme, many of whom have discovered interesting information about their forebears and indeed living relatives worldwide. Mary Kelly, one of the organisers and a spokesperson for the Association, says that. “DNA has become a very important tool in helping decipher our ancestry, which is why we value the contribution being made by Aidan Kelly. The Gathering offers a great opportunity for people who have a genetic, historic and cultural link to meet fellow Kellys and discuss possible relationships, with the added benefit of learning about their ancestors through the DNA process.”

The tours will take in places of interest around the beautiful area of Moyglass (Killenaule) area, which was the birth place of John “Red” Kelly, the father of Australia’s “famous son”, Ned. Also included in the programme will be a Gala Dinner with traditional entertainment, providing an opportunity to relax and chat to new friends who may also turn out to be relatives!

Whatever your interest you can be sure of The O’Kelly Welcome “Failte Ui Ceallaigh”.
