Coonan welcomes health plans
Noel Coonan TD has welcomed several Key Actions confirmed in the 2013 HSE Service Plan including the development of both day case surgery and the Medical Assessment Unit in Nenagh General Hospital. The local Fine Gael TD said the Plan priorities North Tipperary despite budgetary constraints.
“I strongly lobbied my Fine Gael colleague Minister James Reilly before the publication of this plan to ensure North Tipperary’s health facilities benefitted as much as possible despite the financial mess left to us by the previous Government.
“One clear example of how we will benefit is €500,000 in funding and 11 staff confirmed for the Hospital of the Assumption. This will greatly allay public concern over the issue. The plan also provides for the completion of capital development of Borrisokane Day Centre and I am particularly happy about this development because have been following this project for some time since my days on the Mid West Health Board,” said Deputy Coonan.
The Plan brings more good news for North Tipperary announcing that home help hours will be restored to 2012 levels.
“HSE Staff and Management must be acknowledged for the great effort they made to maximise on the resources available to them. They have tried their best to maintain services and must be commended for their dedication and commitment.”
“The HSE and Minister for Health are implementing a performance management framework and working to strengthen governance arrangements. A key focus this year will be on reshaping and remodelling health services in line with the ‘Future Health Framework ’ including the development of hospital groups with new governance structures and stronger more integrated primary and social care sectors.”
“Minister Reilly has made clear that the pace of fundamental reform of the health services will continue through 2013. Minister Reilly has received assurances from Mr Tony O’Brien that he will be fast tracking the appointment a wide range of health professionals in the areas of Mental Health and Primary Care. From quarter one of 2013 a targeted recruitment campaign will be mounted by the HSE to fill hundreds of posts in Mental Health and Primary Care. The development will allow for a strengthening of mental health care for citizens and a significant roll out of Primary Care Teams across the country,” concluded Deputy Coonan.
