Collection for South East Mountain Rescue Service

South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association (SEMRA) is an emergency 24/7/365, voluntary Search and Rescue team covering all the mountains of the South East of Ireland. The team consists of almost 50 experienced unpaid volunteers trained to professional standards, many of whom live in the Tipperary region. Our annual Clonmel collection is being held on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th of October.

As well as responding to search and rescue callouts in the mountains, our team assists those cut off by weather - bringing food and supplies , transport elderly and severely ill patients to hospitals and rescue motorists trapped by sudden and severe snowstorms. Mountain Rescue services in Ireland are provided free of charge to those in need of assistance.

According to SEMRA team leader Ray Bradfield: “The operating costs of a Mountain Rescue Team are, as you can imagine, quite significant. All of the equipment used by the team has a finite ‘shelf life’, and therefore needs to be replaced on an ongoing basis. Add to this the cost of vehicle maintenance, diesel ,training, insurance etc. and it’s easy to see how costs can mount. Our running costs are met by a government grant and the balance (about two thirds) by donations and fundraising. In the last number of years our government funding has been reduced significantly which we need to replace by extra fundraising. We urgently need funds to enable our service to continue operation”. South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association responds to an average of 25 callouts annually.
