Civic Reception for Handball World Champions
Mayor Dr. Sean McCarthy, presenting the framed scrolls to Cashel Handball Club's World Champions John Ferncombe, Daniel Hayes, Colin Ryan, and Denis White,at a Civic Reception accorded to them by Cashel Town Council in the council chamber, Friar Street on Friday night.
CASHEL’S Handball Champions were accorded a full civic reception by the Town Council on Friday, following their extraordinary success in this year’s Handball World Championships, taking home a total of 5 Gold Medals and one Silver Medal.
Cashel Handball Club was represented by 15 players at the ‘World Cup’ of Handball hosted in Citywest, Dublin. The Championship attracted 2,084 competitors from 27 countries, with 3,286 matches being played during the whole tournament.
The roll call of honours recipients for Cashel and across Tipperary is as follows: Colin Ryan, this year’s U13 40x20 Singles World Champion; Jerome Cahill from the Lahorna Handball Club in North Tipp, who partnered the U13 40x20 Doubles Runners Up; Daniel Hayes, U15 40x20 Singles World Champion; Jason English, Ballyporeen Handball Club, who partnered the U15 40x20 Doubles World Champions; and Denis White and John Ferncombe, Mens C Singles 40x20 World Champions.
Noel Murphy, Chairman of Cashel Handball Club, thanked the Mayor and Council members for according a Civic Reception to the Club.
